Honest Review of Borotalco Crema Vellutante: Soft, Powdery, and Comforting Italian Classic

It was time to buy a new body lotion, and I was debating which one to try next. Then, after the swimming class, I was standing next to someone who applied a lotion that smelled so nice. I wondered what it was. After a long search, I found out it was Borotalco Velveting Cream, which is also available at Olive Young.

Texture & Absorption

The texture is a slightly thick cream, and it spreads well enough.

But it doesn’t glide on as smoothly as a super-hydrating lotion when my skin is dry. It can feel a bit draggy on application. So, it would be better to apply right after a shower when it spreads comfortably.

I like this body cream because it doesn’t feel overly heavy or greasy. It offers moderate hydration without feeling oily or rich. The finish is soft and lightly moist, not sticky or slick.

For those with dry skin, it might feel a bit lacking in moisture, and even for me, it might not be enough to keep the skin from feeling dry in winter.

Absorption speed is average, not instant, but reasonable.

My Body Lotion Preferences

I prefer lightweight body creams and lotions. My face is combination-dehydrated, but my body leans more oily. So I don’t enjoy rich, heavy formulas that feel sticky or cling to clothing. So far, my favorite has been Huxley Moroccan Gardener, which is light but gives enough hydration.

Scent

Honestly, I bought this for the scent and it didn’t disappoint.

It has that comforting baby powdery scent, similar to Johnson’s Baby Lotion or Nivea Cream. It’s nostalgic and cozy, the kind of scent that reminds me of childhood.

If you love soft, powdery fragrances, you’ll absolutely enjoy this one.

Packaging

The product comes in a jar container, which some might find less hygienic. Since the cream runs out fairly quickly, I don’t think it’s a big issue. But you can scoop out small amounts if hygiene is a concern.

Personally, I don’t mind the jar type as I haven’t noticed any change in the product quality even if I just dip in with my hands. And a 250ml jar doesn’t last that long anyway!

Final Thoughts

For my skin type, this is the perfect body lotion for spring and fall. It is light and beautifully scented. The powdery fragrance makes me feel relaxed every time I use it.

If you have dry skin, you might find it a bit lacking in moisture, but if you prefer non-greasy, lightweight body creams, Borotalco Velveting Cream is definitely worth a try.
